LONDON HANDEL PLAYERS
Cecelia Bruggemeyer neither planned to be a bass player, nor to perform with period chamber groups, nor to set foot in a classroom ever again.
As an eleven year old auditioning for the Centre for Young Musicians (London) she had been taught the recorder by nuns at school and definitely wanted to take up the flute. Since being awarded a place on condition of learning the double bass she hasn't looked back and soon lost any desire to play a treble instrument no matter how portable!
Once at the Royal Academy of Music Cecelia worked towards a place in a major symphony orchestra only to find herself seduced into the world of period instruments by the arrival of Roy Goodman. Again there was no looking back and after training in the European Union Baroque Orchestra, she has spent 25 very happy years playing with most of the London-based Historically Informed Performance ensembles including the London Handel Players.
Having vowed never to set foot in a classroom again after leaving school, Cecelia found herself tempted to do just that by the OAE (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment) education programme. As well as teaching bass at Guildhall School of Music and Drama she is now a regular school workshop leader for OAE, as well as a presenter of concerts for the under 5s and their families.
Cecelia is looking forward to many more challenging and fulfilling career opportunities but as they're never as planned who knows what they might be….
